I firmly believe that intuition is a very strong thing, and I knew I would love Hair of the Dog’s beers way before I ever had my first sip. Until this video I had only had the Ruth, which is their pale ale. It didn’t blow my mind but it gave me completely different insight in to what HOTD beers would bring to the table. In searching through their lineup, Adam stood out as one I wanted to drink next and get on the show ASAFP. And what a winner it is. It’s big, it’s bold, it’s complex, and it’s friggin’ macho as hell. I’m surprised there’s not engine oil in this beer because it has just about everything else a manly man could want: tobacco, chocolate, coffee, smoke, and dark fruits. But what makes it truly magical is how all of these flavors and aromas come together in the most amazing way. The balance between sweet and bitter or chocolate and tobacco are magical. There’s no other way to put it. If I had this beer at my disposal in Kansas City I think I’d be spending a good chunk of change to stock my collection. Adam is easily one of the best beers I’ve had in 2010. Get a trade going now or float a few extra Washingtons to purchase one off of eBay. Either way you won’t be sorry…

I had this beer last fall from batch #74. I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer that was so perfectly balanced yet had so many incredibly different flavors. Adam is just a tremendously delicious beer. I want to try their barleywine (Fred) and their tribute to Michael (not the pop singer) Jackson called Michael. It’s a Flanders red.

I have the Doggie Claws and the Matt which I’m sure I will open one day for the show… I can’t wait. If anyone can get more of these beers for me, shoot me an e-mail. I have funds…

I have to admit I never even heard of this brewery before. I live in NY so maybe I should seek it out. Can’t say I remember seeing it on the shelves before though.

I believe you can get it in NY. I’d have to go back and look, but highly recommend it if you can.

I had an Adam and Fred last night and enjoy them both a lot. I’d love to try the Matt, it’s been pretty elusive though.

You need to try Blue Dot for sure. Super underrated. You’d love it more than anything.

Hey man, I love your show. I’m doing a craft beer thing as well at http://www.BeerNationShow.com. It’s a little different as we are exploring the renaissance of craft beer. Hope you enjoy it. Oh and Adam is pretty fantastic. I haven’t had one in awhile, but after this review I think I need to get me another.

[...] I’ve said it (Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA), if a beer smells like leather, I’ve said it (HOTD Adam), and the Fantôme Saison smells like vomit. End of story. Now, there are a lot of redeeming [...]

At the new Hair of the Dog taproom, Alan Sprints still sells his first batch of Adam. I believe its an 95′ vintage for about $90 a 12 oz. Actually a pretty good deal if you think about it. One of his Dave beers sold for $1600 on ebay. Dave is a 29 percent barleywine. Probably my new favorite brewery.
