O’Fallon Smoked Porter

Aside from having a few smoked beers in my collection, I’m not quite sure what prompted me to go with a “Smoked Beer Week.” Anyway here we go. First up, from nearby O’Fallon, Missouri is the (too long to put the whole name in my heading) O’Fallon Whiskey Barrel-Aged Smoked Porter. Roughly 2,350 bottles were produced and they are quickly leaving the shelves as I write this review. As for the beer itself, it’s a pretty easy drinking porter that tastes more like crispy bacon than porter. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you ask me because who doesn’t love crispy bacon? Though some will argue that O’Fallon’s regular Smoked Porter is better, I much prefer the way the barrel-aging has mellowed out the smoke here. The regular version tastes more like liquid smoke has been added and less like malts have actually been smoked with fire. At the end of the day, this is a very solid effort and a nice collectible to have but not the best representative of the style.

Hmmmm…I’ve had beers with breakfast, Bloody Marys with breakfast, mimosas with breakfast, sparkling wine with breakfast….

In fact a good portion of weekend breakfasts in San Diego are served with an alcoholic beverage. Of course dining out for breakfasts in SD is far different than in most of the rest of the world when it comes to the menu and peoples’ expectations.

    • Don’t even get me started on all the ways I have to be jealous of where you live. I have a teammate who lives there and I get to hear about the San Diego weather all the time. Ooohhh brrrrr it’s 56 degrees here today….whatever! It’s 12 here. Things like that. Hahaha. I did live there when I was in Marine Corps bootcamp…
