I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Michigan makes some of the best beer in the world. The number of great breweries in that state is just staggering. I won’t list them all, but chances are you know of at least three that you enjoy. Kuhnhenn Brewing Company is another Michigan brewery (Warren, MI), but it’s one I have not had anything from until now. I was lucky enough to have a few different beers from Kuhnhenn brought back to me and I’ve been anxious to try them ever since. The fact that their Raspberry Eisbock contains raspberries…well…you get where I’m going with this. Here we are with the third and final beer in “Raspberry Week” on The Hopry. I saved the biggest and baddest for last. Biggest and baddest because many claim this is like drinking a desert wine. Well that’s exactly what it’s like. I’m reminded mostly of Port wine, which is a very sweet desert wine. While I am a HUGE fan of Port, I wasn’t such a big fan of this beer. The word cloying is all I can bring to mind. It’s abundantly sweet (too sweet actually) for my taste. While some may ask me how it compares to others in its style, I can’t lie I haven’t had many. But even at only 6.3 ounces, I could just barely make my way through this beer.
Check out all sessions of The Hopry here.

I make alcohol filled popsicles every now and then that has the equivalent of around a 1oz shot, though I suppose it is more suspending the alcohol in mixture vs freezing it.

Have you ever tried this with beer? I imagine that’d be kind of good as the carbonation would add a soda-like element to them. Maybe a really fresh pineapple or mango Popsicle with an uber hoppy IPA perhaps?

I know you said its a good idea to brew beers this way but don’t agree. I think its cheating and kinda lame. its just a way to distill.
how bout them suns! 3 – 0 on them evil spurs!

I don’t remember advocating brewing this way, but I’ll have to go back and watch. I remember saying I wouldn’t go into detail because I’ve never brewed with this method. Either way, no biggie… I also know that some brewers (in order to make their beers stronger or bigger) will just reduce the amount of water they brew with in a recipe (sometimes by half). Which I guess would give you somewhat the same results.
