Lost Abbey Angel’s Share

Hopry Special # 5 | Lost Abbey | Angel’s Share (Bourbon) | 12.5% ABV
American Strong Ale | 96/100

Hello everyone! So I hoped you all enjoyed Saison Week as much as Tim and I did. After recording these three sessions, we both wanted to keep going (if you can believe it), so we did. We decided to throw on our big boy hats and bring you a fun-filled session with Lost Abbey’s Angel’s Share (Bourbon Barrel). I will be traveling to the state of Texas where I hope to pick up some Allagash, Dogfish Head, Oskar Blues, Victory, and several other breweries. While I’m gone, please enjoy this special session of The Hopry. And I’d also like to point out that I recently added a new week of sessions to the “Coming Soon” section. I’ll let you go there and find out for yourself. It’s going to be AMAZING. See you guys next Monday for Mikkeller Week.

Nice series of reviews. You guys must of had a good night’s sleep after that lot.

I just came across this little bit of news: http://beernews.org/2010/04/dogfish-head-announces-bitches-brew-40th-anniversary-beer/

Dogfish Head makes an anniversary Bitches Brew…. brew. Pretty cool.

The bourbon is still readily available around San Diego. (At least I am familiar with several shops that still have it in stock.) And I’m pretty sure that it is still available at the brewery.

I actually tasted this for the first time on Friday at Lost Abbey and while tasty it is definitely a bottle to be shared. Would love to see how this tastes in a few years as it should cellar really well.

Oh, and this would go well with a cigar.

      • Oh man, I bet it would. The smokiness of the cigar playing off the the insane amount of sweetness and bourbon heat would be a good evening by the water… You’ll get to do that before me, though. LOL!

since it has so little carbonation, I might worry that after 5 years it would be flat. what do you think about that mark?

I get the standard lost abbey beers here in AZ but never these great releases until recently I found 09 brandy angel share so I bought 3 bottles. 13.00 bucks a bottle not too bad only 1 dollar an ounce haha!
but good trade value and good beer, I did shake them up a bit in store to check for carbonation and it seems they all are. I will prolly wait til winter to pop the first one open.

    • It’s hard to speculate since none of them have been around for five years yet. It’ll never be a highly carbonated beer, but I do get a good amount of heat from them when they’re young. I’d imagine it will be a pretty delightful beer in five years if that booziness calms down, but again can’t speak to the carbonation levels.
