Kuhnhenn Brewery is not one of the most recognized breweries in the United States of America, but that’s what makes them so interesting. I love discovering the small breweries this country has to offer. Did I mention that they are from Michigan? SHWING!!! That’s already a good sign because I’ve said it time and time again that Michigan owns our asses when it comes to great craft beer production. I can name you at least six SOLID breweries from the state. Not many other states can say they have that many greats or get that kind of love. The first beer I’m sharing from the collection with you this week is the Kuhnhenn Mayhem Belgian Dark Strong Ale. Like a good majority of Kuhnhenn’s beers, Mayhem is a high ABV, highly sweetened, head-lacking affair. It pours about the same color as most of their beers do and comes at you with a vengeance…like most of their beers do. It pours dark and opaque (but not stout-like) and smells of sticky fruits and strong caramel. The flavor is much like the aroma, only you get a lot more intensity on the palate than the nose hairs. So while it’s not the most successful beer, it’s definitely not something to scoff at. You’ll want to save this one for the autumn and winter months for sure. Up next: Kuhnhenn Olde Brune
Check out all sessions of The Hopry here.
This beer can be found in these states.

Definitely love Chappelle. Has he even done anything lately? I know they’ve been re-airing his show here again and I’ve been catching a few episodes. Hilarious!

Hey,
I also drank a Belgian strong tonight, N’Ice Chouffe. And also felt like it was good, but nothing more than good. Happy to drink it, and that’s about it. Have you had any Belgian strongs (as opposed to quads) that have blown your mind?
As for favourite comedian, Richard Pryor. So much heart in that man.
Cheers.

Pryor was definitely a pioneer. He’s responsible for probably half of the comedians working today (if not more). Along with Carlin…
As for other good Belgian Strongs that I’ve reviewed and liked…
- DeStruise Pannepot
- Gulden Draak
- De Dolle Oerbier
Thanks,
Mark Starr

Lewis Black! His delivery of his jokes is great………..Also because I’m a nerd I would say Patton Oswalt.
Keep up the good work Mark.

I do love me some Lewis Black. The madder he gets, the harder I laugh…

I also forgot to give Sarah Silverman some love. She’s funny as hell and sometimes gets forgotten.

George Carlin was my favorite. Growing up you couldn’t not like Eddie Murphy. His movies were great and I think most of us around the ages of 34-40 had most of the jokes in Raw memorized. I think Eddie is a great actor and comedian.

Zack Galifiniakis is awesome! I like Brian Reagan, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac are great. The two best were Pryor and Carlin for sure.

Louis C.K. is probably the funniest person I’ve seen lately.
