From BeerAdvocate: “Bocks–you know, those beers with goats on the label–are relatively strong German lagers. Doppelbocks–as the name might suggest–are typically even stronger and contain enough malty goodness that they’ve been considered a meal in a glass for centuries. Generally they have a very full-bodied flavor and are darker than their little Bock brothers and sisters and a higher level of alcohol too. They range in color from dark amber to nearly black, and dark versions often have slight chocolate or roasted characters. Average alcohol by volume (abv) range: 6.5-9.0%”

Love this beer. I was happy when this started showing up in town.

It’s definitely not in short supply which makes me very happy.

I’ve actually never had this beer. Which is crazy, because I like dopplebocks and Weihenstephaner as a brewery in particular. German beers just sort of get lost in the shuffle for me oftentimes, with my tastes typically trending towards (alliteration, ftw!) Belgians and American styles.
I will remedy this when I return to KC next month (Alabama’s arcane container size laws prevent Weihenstephaner’s 500mL bottles from being sold in the state).

Agree 100%, which is exactly why I wanted to do this week of German beers. Thanks for watching and for the comments. Have fun back here in KC. Send some stuff home while you’re here and definitely stop by Gomer’s in LS.

I loved the song. For some reason I had DJ Shadow in my mental “crap music” folder, but I guess I will have to look at more of his discography.

Endtroducing is still one of the best albums made…EVER!!! You should definitely start there.

This is what I get for listening to SomaFM without looking at what is playing. In a brief audit of the interweb for samples I’m familiar with quite a bit of his work.

He’s progressively moved away from his early work over the years. Some was okay to me, but nothing will ever match Endtroducing.

This is definitely my favorite doppelbock. While everyone loves ayinger’s celebrator, Korbinian has a more vibrant dark fruit character that makes it more of a joy to drink.
Cheers!

Who is this guy stealing my name? You seem pretty cool, name-thieving aside.

Love this beer – great way to finish German Week.

Great week of sessions. I loved getting to see a new beer everyday and getting a peak into some German styles I’m not familiar with. I’m definitely going to search for some of these.
Cheers!

I have to second what Mike said. I normally only drink German beers in Germany. I’m going to have to start looking for some over here.

Glad you enjoyed them, Mike. Thank you!

OMG I just ordered this for the store this week. I took one home today and just finished it. WOW I love this beer. Weihenstephaner is amazing. I have tasted 3 of their beers and have been blown away on all of them. This reminds me of the Ayinger Celebrator which I totally love as well. Hope I spelled that right. Thanks Mark!

Awesome! Glad you liked it. And it’s affordable enough that you can taste these out, too. I think people would go nuts for it.
