Guinness Foreign Extra Stout

Session # 157 | Guinness | Foreign Extra Stout | 7.5% ABV
Foreign / Export Stout | Dublin, Ireland | Rating: 87/100

One year ago: Haandbryggeriet Norwegian Wood

If there’s ever a day for drinking beer it’s certainly St. Patrick’s Day. And if there’s one beer brand that exemplifies the day more than any other it’s Guinness. As I say on camera, though, I am not the biggest fan of their traditional version; however the Foreign Extra Stout is a different affair. It looked just as it should when poured into a glass with its dark black color and nice fluffy tan-colored head that rested on top like meringue on a fresh pie. The nose on the Foreign Extra Stout is very nice and reminds me slightly of a Quad that’s been blended with an American Porter. The taste doesn’t stray too far from the aroma either, as the dark fruits really shine underneath the good amount of dark malts. The roasted bitterness and sweetness work great together in this beer. It’s certainly the perfect beer for the occasion and one that you could easily drink any other time of the year, too. HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY EVERYONE!!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Mark. Another great review. I am also a fan of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. I find that it is easy to have a few bottles in an evening.

By the way, I also really like the new opening for your web reviews.

Happy Patty’s Day. I’m German and Irish as well. I’ll agree that this is the tastiest Guinness out there.
Guinness was actually my gateway beer if you will. For a 2-3 year period from 20 to 23 it’s all i drank. I moved on to better craft beers of course but i’ll always have a soft spot for Guinness. Even the watery tasteless nitro cans.

    Great review!

    Cheers!

I’m with you all the way on this one. 87 for me too. Only thing I could fault is the mouthfeel. It’s still too thin for me.
