Hefes & Goats

Special # 15
Beer & Cheese Pairing | Hefes & Goats

Wine and cheese tastings have been around for ages, but you rarely see people talking about pairing beer with cheese. I believe these two things together are one of the most enjoyable combinations on the planet. In today’s session I pair the salty, tart, and creamy (but dry) Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog with one of the world’s best Hefeweizen from Weihenstephaner. The soft sweetness of the beer cuts through the richness of the cheese, while the tartness of both balances well with each other. Take a sip, then a bite, then a sip. When you taste the two of these together for the first time, you’ll truly understand what the word “pairing” means. This beer and cheese combo is truly a match made in heaven and one you can easily enjoy for around $6 – $8. That’s about what you’d pay for a beer at your local watering hole…

I could tell that it was a “very special” edition of The Hopry because Mark’s hair was tamed.

I miss Weihenstephaner. You can’t buy their beers in Alabama because of the state’s senseless ban on container sizes larger than 16 ounces.

Great video. I’ve always loved beer, and always loved cheese…Never really took the time to seriously consider proper pairings. This video introduced me to a whole new world.

Btw.bought a few beers I wanted to cellar and Googled “how to cellar beer” That was just over a week ago. Been checking out the Hopry pretty much daily since.

    Really been enjoying your specials.

Yup! One of my long-favourite pairings of all time is a spicy turkey burger, on which I use goats cheese rather than chedder/American cheese, and a good quality Hefeweizen.
The flavours are out of this world, partially encouraged by cilantro in the burger itself, which as we all know is an ingredient in the hefe’s Belgian cousin, the wit.

You should. I recommend using flour-dusted ciabatta for the “bun”.

Oh, and another incredible pairing that’ll effortlessly heighten your appreciation for lambic: Lamb sausages and gueuze.

    Mark,

Just tried the Humboldt Fog with a Schlafly Bavarian Style Weissbier. WOW amazing combination of flavors.

Thanks for the great videos and tips!
