Tail Waggin’ Double White

Session # 158
Grand Teton | Tail Waggin’ Double White
Witbier | Victor, Idaho | 7.2% ABV

One year ago: Beer Collection Video

Grand Teton Brewing Company is not a brewery you hear a lot about, but when you see their bottles in liquor stores it’s hard not to be intrigued. I normally see their bottles and love the way they look but always wait until next time. Today that ends as I share with you there Tail Waggin’ Double White Ale, which is a (you guessed it) Witbier brewed with orange and spices. It pours a very vibrant yellow with a fair amount of yeast sediment floating around the glass. It’s hazy and boasts a quickly-fading white head. The smell is just what you’d expect from the style with its estery aroma from the yeast and the lemon and orange characters wrapping it all up nicely. The mouthfeel is medium with a bit of bitterness being needed to help boost the overall experience. Though not a 90+ point beer, this is one that can easily be enjoyed by one or two people in a sitting. Rating: 84/100

Just came across The Hopry via an ad on TMT. I look forward to looking through your blog a bit more in the coming days/weeks. Regarding this beer, I’ve only tried it once and it struck me as too sweet the more I drank it. The night I tried it I was was disinterested, but I’m thinking I should try it again. I really like Grand Teton’s Trout Hop Black IPA.

  2. I’m a fan of Grand Teton’s beers, however, I have not tried this one yet. If you get a chance to try any of their other beers, I highly recommend it. The Pursuit of Hoppiness is one of my favorites. Definitely check it out.

    • I’ve been wanting to try that one as I’ve heard it’s very good. The one I saw today in fact said it was four months old. Do you know if they’re still good at this point? I know they use a fair amount of hops…

      • It is actually heavily hopped with summit, simcoe, chinook, and nuggets. As a result, it comes in at 100 IBUs. I have had this beer at 3 months old, and there did not appear to be too much hop degradation. However, that might have been because it was refrigerated properly.

For some reason, I always pass these up. Might have to give one a shot.
