Chewiness

After the Show # 6 | “Chewiness”

It’s always nice to have someone to share amazing beers with. This one was no exception. And right after we got done reviewing this beer, we couldn’t stop talking about how chewy it was on the palate. In fact, Tim knew this would be a big beer based solely on the Original Gravity (OG) and Final Gravity (FG) found on the back of the beer label. We’re pretty confident that if you don’t truly understand what “chewy” means as it relates to beer, you definitely will once you try this monstrous brew from Jester King.

Peat

After the Show # 5 | “Peat”

Minutes after I ended my review for the Mikkeller Rauch Geek Breakfast, a subtle difference occurred that I felt was worthy of discussing. The smokey character originally started (and remained I should say) as crispy bacon, but after some time in the glass you could really start to pull out the peated malts that were used in this beer. I have to tell you that it made me pretty happy to experience that flavor because I had just wished this six months ago…

Balance

After the Show # 4 | “Balance”

Once we stopped the camera for our Kate the Great review, we couldn’t stop talking about the balance of this thing. We felt that it was what made this beer so amazing. And even though it had very little age on it, the boozy burn we got from the initial aromas had all but disappeared. This key element of our experience alone was what caused us to rate it so highly. It proves once again that you don’t have to make your Imperial Stouts too big and bombastic for them to be great. This is a recipe worthy of the hype…

The Sahti Process

After the Show # 3 | “The Sahti Process”

While doing our review of the Dogfish Head Sah’tea, I could tell Tim wanted to geek out on the Sahti process. I did not want to neglect him of this time, so the second we were done with our review I let Tim take the ropes. It’s always fun to the learn the process of brewing, but more specifically it’s fun to relate that process (and story) to the beer that you’re actually drinking at the moment. In this quick ATS, Tim and I discuss the Sahti process and determine that we’d like to probably try more beers in the style.

Beer Trends in 2011

After the Show # 2 | “Beer Trends in 2011”

It seems the craft beer industry (like many other industries) is prone to trends. Some of the most recent trends in memory are bourbon barrel-aged Stouts, Imperial IPAs, and Cascadian Dark Ales. Not only do some craft breweries want to be known for their creativity, but many have to step up their game simply to be competitive. Tim and I got together recently before reviewing a few beers and wanted to share a few trends that we’d like to see in 2011. Some may just be a dream, but we think many of them are possible in the current craft beer environment. Let us know what you’d like to see in 2011.
